Publicada el 7 de julio de 1968, Yellow submarine es un musical de animación, 90 minutos de duración, inspirado en el tema compuesto en 1966 por Paul McCartney, siendo dirigida por G. Dunning.
La película narra la historia de Pepperland,
un alegre paraíso submarino en el que habitan amantes de la música que
viven felices y en paz. Este lugar es invadido por los “Blue Meanies”,
criaturas que odian la música. Estos encierran a la banda protectora de la ciudad, Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, en una
burbuja, paralizan a los ciudadanos y lo vuelven todo azul.
Ante esa situación, la única solución es
pedir ayuda y para eso el alcalde del pueblo manda al viejo marinero
Fred en el famoso submarino amarillo para ir en busca de refuerzos y así
derrotarlos. Cuando llega a Liverpool conoce a Ringo, George, John y Paul, quienes deciden unirse a la causa.
Entre las canciones que podemos escuchar en el film El sumbarino amarillo se encuentran: “Lucy in the sky with diamonds”, “All together now”, “All you need is love” y por supuesto la que da el nombre a la película “Yellow submarine”...
